Overview

Five days builtaround volleyball,Puerto and thepeople you meet

  • Seven coached sessions
  • Groups matched by playing level
  • Maximum eight players per coach
  • Individual video feedback
  • Final tournament
  • Local activities and group experiences
  • An international volleyball community

Sand Crew PXM brings players and coaches from different countries together for five days of training, competition and life on the Oaxacan coast.

Train in small groups with FIVB-qualified coaches, AAA players and professional players from Mexico and Canada. Between sessions, discover Puerto Escondido from the ocean, explore its different neighbourhoods and spend time with a crew that came for the same reasons you did.

This is not five days of continuous drills, and it is not a group holiday with a little volleyball added. The schedule gives proper time to coaching, playing, recovering and experiencing Puerto.

Train with FIVB-qualified coaches from different nationalities, supported by AAA and professional players from Mexico and Canada. Different coaches bring different perspectives, while a shared training plan keeps the week consistent.

Coaching that stays personal

Groups are limited to a maximum of eight players per coach. Sessions combine technical work, tactical situations and competitive play, with corrections adapted to your level and individual video feedback during the week.

Play with people at your level

Groups are organized by ability, pace and playing needs. Beginners build strong foundations, intermediate players work on consistency and decision-making, and advanced players train in faster, more tactical situations.

More than the sessions

Free play, group activities, time in the ocean and a final tournament turn five days of training into a shared camp experience. Come with friends or arrive alone. You will be part of the crew from the first day.

How placement works

We match groups by ability, not by how many years you have played.

Every participant completes a short pre-camp questionnaire and may submit a playing video. Final group placement is confirmed during the opening on-site assessment.

Puerto Escondido

Volleyball isonly part ofwhy you come

Puerto Escondido is built for days that start early and finish by the ocean. You can train in the morning, recover over breakfast, head out onto the Pacific and return to the sand later in the day.

March falls within Puerto Escondido's warm, dry season. It is also at the end of the humpback whale migration period, while dolphins and sea turtles can be seen in the waters off the Oaxacan coast throughout the year. Sightings are never guaranteed.

Out on the Pacific

Join an optional early-morning boat trip in search of dolphins, sea turtles, rays and seasonal humpback whales. The tours normally leave around sunrise, giving the group time to get back before the rest of the day begins.

Beaches with different personalities

Zicatela is known for its powerful surf and long open beach. La Punta brings together sunsets, cafés, restaurants and a relaxed evening atmosphere. For calmer swimming, participants can explore beaches such as Carrizalillo, Manzanillo or Puerto Angelito.

Food worth making time for

Puerto's food scene moves from simple fish tacos and local seafood to Oaxacan cooking, international restaurants and small places hidden away from the main beach. Group meals will introduce participants to some of our local favourites, while free evenings leave time to discover your own.

Evenings together

Some nights will be organized, others deliberately left open. Expect sunset drinks, a group dinner, live music or an informal night out rather than a compulsory party schedule.

See more if you stay longer

Surf lessons, mezcal tastings, cooking classes, horseback riding, lagoon trips and visits to coastal nature reserves can all be arranged before or after the camp.

Stay

Stay together, without havingto stay in thesame hotel

For this first edition, accommodation is separate from the camp fee. You can book your own hotel, apartment, hostel or Airbnb now, or wait until we publish the final accommodation arrangements.

We are speaking with local hotels and will have complete accommodation information available before November 2026. Depending on participant numbers and room availability, we may organize a main camp hotel or negotiate a group option.

Joining the Priority List does not commit you to an accommodation choice. When the hotel information is ready, you can decide whether to stay with the main group or arrange your own place.

Puerto Escondido is compact, and the camp will be concentrated around Zicatela and La Punta. Participants may sleep in different places, but training, activities, meals and social plans will bring the group together throughout the day.

Wait for the camp accommodation information

Join the Priority List and select "I'd like accommodation suggestions." We will contact you before November with the recommended option, expected prices and booking instructions.

Arrange your own stay

If you prefer to secure your room earlier, you can book independently. We recommend staying in Zicatela or La Punta so you remain close to the courts, restaurants and group meeting points.

  • Most training will be concentrated around Zicatela.
  • Some training and activity time will be around La Punta.
  • Zicatela and La Punta are close enough for camp logistics.
  • Taxis and local bike rental are available if useful.

Testimonials

What players andvolleyball people say

Sand Crew PXM's first edition runs in March 2027, so these are not camp reviews — they are from volleyball people who know how Mateo coaches and runs a group.

  • “Mateo brings the kind of energy that makes people want to join in. He is competitive, but he also knows how to keep the atmosphere positive and make everyone feel welcome. Puerto Escondido is a natural home for what he is building: great conditions, a growing volleyball community and people from all over the world who simply love being on the sand.”

    Fran Maldonado

    Andalusian Volleyball Federation

  • “Mateo's passion for volleyball is obvious in everything he does. He has the energy to bring people together and the organisational skills to turn an idea into a well-run event. He understands the players, coordinates people naturally and never loses sight of the atmosphere. That combination is difficult to find.”

    Ramón Velázquez

    President, Andalusian Volleyball Federation

  • “Mateo understands that good coaching is not just about knowing the game. You also need to communicate clearly, read the group and create an environment where players want to work. He brings those things together very naturally, which is exactly what you want from someone leading a volleyball camp.”

    Eduardo Toranzo

    First Division Volleyball Coach, Spain

  • “I improved a lot training with Mateo because he did more than give me drills. He helped me understand why I was making certain mistakes and what I needed to change. I became more confident, made better decisions and started seeing the game differently. His sessions are demanding, but you always understand what you are working on.”

    Andrea Gozalo

    Volleyball Player

  • “What I really value about Mateo is his knowledge of both indoor and beach volleyball. He understands what carries over between the two and what has to change when you move onto the sand. His explanations are clear, practical and adapted to the player in front of him.”

    Paloma Sánchez

    Indoor and Beach Volleyball Player

  • “I could already feel a difference after four sessions with Mateo. He quickly spotted the habits that were holding me back and gave me simple corrections I could actually use in a game. The sessions were focused, competitive and enjoyable, and I came away feeling much more confident on the court.”

    Walter

    Beach Volleyball Player

  • “Mateo has always had a real ability to get people involved. Players respond to his energy, and he creates sessions where everyone is active and understands what they are trying to improve. His coaching style is modern, direct and very connected to the player, which helps him build both performance and community.”

    Alberto Alcántara

President, San Pedro Volleyball Club, Spain
